FB fanpage demographic changes over 1 year
March 17, 2010
Today I’ve been crunching numbers (crunch) on our Facebook fan page and thought I’d share some nuggets of info. I’m guessing this is more or less consistent with many other pages, given the increases in different age groups on Facebook.
What I didn’t expect was the differences in male and female, even though I guess it’s common knowledge women are more active on Facebook than men. Strange since I feel like my male friends on twitter far outnumber my female friends!

I saw your post via EMGOnline’s tweet and it motivated me to look at the trend over the same time period for our Fan Page at http://www.facebook.com/babsoncollege.
The charts can be seen at http://twitter.com/gbegin/status/10736967087
After letting the page grow organically for the first year, we really put focus on increasing the engagement level with prospective and current students. That resulted in the largest increase being in those age groups, in addition to an increase in the same demographics that Facebook is seeing an increase in.
Our female-male splits are not as drastic. As a college focused on business, our male constituents have traditionally outnumbered our female constituents….although we’re getting close to 50-50!
Thanks for sharing your info, Gene! Really interesting to see it change according to the focus you put on different audiences.
